Key Points:-
- Orthobox spinners usually operate with higher bowling arm than leggies do. They need a high arm action to achieve lots of over spin for their stock ball
- Coaches must encourage young spinners to spin hard and spin the ball up to achieve loop above the batsmen eyes ( MAGNUS EFFECT )
- The offies must spin hard and work towards a stcok off break which has plenty of over spin
- As with his cousin the leggie , the orthodox spinner must have his front arm and shoulder pointing towards target
- The offie must adhere to the basics
- We hear diffrenet terms associated with spin bowling coaching. Offie are told to PIVOT , yet if the off spinner or left armer has a good approach, rock back and drive through the crease, the pivot happens naturally
- An offie who has a shorter span between his front and back foot delivery will find driving over his front leg with real vigor easier to achieve . It will also produce a quicker delivery arc.
Off spinner Checklist:-
- Strong grip ( first and middle fingers widely spaced across seam )
- Side on position into delivery stride ( careful not to become closed )
- Utilize front arm
- Wrist cocked, spin up and over the ball
- Bowling arm high ( not past vertical )
- Launch off a braced front leg head high, head and shoulders steady, follow through with bowling arm in line with body
- Bowling arm and shoulder face the batsman as you drive over the braced front leg, you will achieve the necessary vigor to ratate hips and pivot
